Curtains Up!

curtainsupblueJoin us for a special event and tribute, Curtains Up! A Musical Theatre Tribute to Virginia C. “Ginna” Looney, on  Friday, May 29, 2015 at 7:00pm at Warren County Middle School, 240 Luray Avenue, Front Royal, VA 22630.

Virginia C. “Ginna” Looney, spent the better part of three decades at Warren County High School, teaching math and touching lives – being “the bright light in an otherwise dark math world.” Yet her real gift was inspiring young people through theatre. Ginna was instrumental in reviving the Front Royal Little Theatre as Creative Director, directing numerous grand productions such as the musicals “Mame” and “The Sound of Music,” inspiring local residents to become stars, if only just for a night. Ginna was also a Charter Board Member of Blue Ridge Arts Council, founded in 1987.

To honor her contributions to the arts in our community, the stage at Warren County Middle School will be dedicated in her memory, at a musical theatre showcase featuring professional vocalists, WCPS choral students, WCPS alumni/college students, WCPS teachers, and the Front Royal Oratorio Society.

Proceeds from this event will be used for the production a future WCPS County-Wide Musical, presented through an existing partnership program with WCPS, as well as the ongoing programs of Blue Ridge Arts Council.

Tickets are $10.00 Adult General Admission; $5.00 Student (ages 2-18) General Admission. Tickets are available online at https://www.ticketriver.com/event/15482, or in person at Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce, Front Royal Visitor’s Center and Blue Ridge Arts Council.

About Con Burch:
I started singing in my church when I was just a young girl.  I joined the adult choir and then after teaching myself to play piano became the choir director and organist.   Later I would go to college in West Virginia and study vocal performance and piano.  I was a section leader in our concert choir and the secretary and tour director, scheduling tours throughout the entire east coast.  I also became the lead singer for a country/rock local band in Elkins, WV and I was hooked.  The mic has not left my lips since.

Since college I have had many opportunities to perform with a variety of bands from Washington, DC and now back to my mountain roots in the Shenandoah Valley.   I have sung pop, rock, country, big band, funk, blues, jazz, folk and have recently added bluegrass to my repertoire.
In addition to my performing I also teach voice and piano to students of all ages. I have several studios in the area and I also offer in-home lessons. Please see my Lessons page for more details.

About Kelly:
As a daily painter Kelly attempts to paint every day.  She  joined the daily painting movement several years ago and says that it has helped her to maintain artistic discipline, foster creativity, improve her skills and bring her great joy daily.Very much taken with subjects of everyday life from landscapes to fruit and vegetables to animals, she works in watercolor, oil, and acrylic.  Working in multiple mediums keeps Kelly from being bored and gives her flexibility in subject matter.  Often painting  from photos in the studio, she still loves to paint in en Plein-air whenever possible.Kelly is a native of Georgia where she received a BS in Secondary Education from Georgia Southern College.  She has been a full-time artist since 2007.  Prior to that she worked sixteen years in the non-profit world with Chambers of Commerce in Kentucky and Virginia.

Tapping into her teaching experience, Kelly teaches art to children and adults at the Blue Ridge Arts Council in Front Royal as well as giving private lessons.  She was selected in 2011 to teach an Art Residency at the elementary schools in Warren County for the 175th Anniversary Celebration.    Kelly is a firm believer in public/community service and is very active in many organizations in the community.  She served on the Board of the Pennyroyal Arts Council, Hopkinsville, KY, and is past President of the Blue Ridge Arts Council Board in Front Royal, VA.  Kelly is very active dog rescue groups around the country often providing them with art for fund-raising.

She lives and paints with Jed (a black lab-basset), Lincoln (half wirehaired dachshund and half Robin Williams on speed), and Mamie (Cairn terrier) – all rescues dogs.
