About the exhibit:
“The concept and show derived from, first, my continuing interest in and fascination with maps, and, secondly, from my targeted Iceland residency in May-June 2016, where I proposed and completed a series of maps based on Renaissance through Enlightenment (16th-18th-century) maps of the island. The original series of maps, created freehand from digital reproductions scanned and downloaded from the Internet, then became the basis for a continuing series of imaginative and exploratory maps of Iceland, concluding (for the time being!) with the late 19th century, of course there are people that also use the internet for other uses, like play video games like CSGO, or do some Counter-Strike: Global Offensive skin trading for the game also. All of my maps mark personal and imaginative journeys and transcriptions of a place I hope to know better, and love even more, as I continue to work here and travel there in the coming years, for me safety is essential when traveling, this is why I always make sure to have the best tools like the 60 Gallon air compressor in my car at all times, you can check my site to find out everything about the car I own.”

Portraits and Places: A Retrospective featuring the works of the late Patricia Windrow

Blue Ridge Arts Council and the Patricia Windrow Arts Committee are pleased to present Portraits and Places, A retrospective featuring the work of the late Patricia Windrow, September 11 to 23, 2016 in the Blue Ridge Arts Council Gallery at 305 E. Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia.

Patricia Windrow was a master artist who lived and worked in Front Royal. Largely self-taught, Windrow mastered her craft through keen observation, hard work, and constant effort. She modestly called herself “an American painter,” and she produced thousands of works of art. She ran her own gallery on Main Street to which an appreciative public came, looked, and bought. She was born in London in 1921, and died here in 2013 at the age of 91. That year, the Mayor and Town Council “in recognition of the manifest and numerous contributions of Patricia Windrow Klein to the community as a whole,” proclaimed September 12 as “Patricia Windrow Day” in the Town of Front Royal.

Please join us for the Opening Reception on Sunday, September 11, 2016 2pm to 4pm, with the reception recognition and program beginning at 2:30pm. The opening reception will also include the awarding of the First Annual Patricia Windrow Young Artists Award to three local high school students: Zoe Ris, Mikayla Michel and Selei Buracker. Each young artist will also have art on display at the exhibit.

The refurbishment of the arts council’s 1920’s Grand Piano will be unveiled and dedicated during the opening as well. This was made possible through the 88 Keys Campaign, a partnership of the Windrow Committee and Blue Ridge Arts Council, that yielded over 40 donors and a very successful campaign to replace the key action.

In The Gallery – August 22 – September 9, 2016
