Blue Ridge Arts Council will honor Tom Eshelman as their Arts Citizen of the Year at the 9th Annual Dinner Roast on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at The Apple House in Linden. The evening features the arts council’s annual business meeting and a light-hearted “roast” on outstanding member of the community who has exhibited dedication, vision and commitment to the arts.

“Tom has been a wonderful supporter of Blue Ridge Arts Council, literally raising tens of thousands of dollars through his donated services as auctioneer, for the programs of the arts council. Many not-for-profits in the community certainly can say the same of Tom, he is a true community supporter and can be found at many events throughout the year, raising monies for programs that benefit our town and county”, stated Kym Crump, Executive Director of Blue Ridge Arts Council. “Tom is very deserving of this recognition; he truly does so much good work in this community, and is always in the background, never in the spotlight, helping so many people and programs. We think it’s time to turn the spotlight on Tom, and force a little thanks and admiration on him – maybe he will even sing for us!”

Doug Stanley and Jim Eastham will serve as emcees for the evening, which will include remarks from several invited speakers. The evening begins at 6:30 pm with a social, followed by dinner and program at 7pm.

Event tickets are limited to 100 guests and are $50 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the arts council at 540.635.9909. Sponsorships are also available at the $500 and $1000 level (tables of 8). Blue Ridge Arts Council is a 25-year old community arts organization and the proceeds of this event will benefit the ongoing arts and cultural programming of the council.

Glass Onion is a Beatles tribute band based in Front Royal, VA, USA.Formed in 2001, and having a 170+ Beatles song repertoire, they have played gigs at taverns, festivals and private events in Virgina, Maryland, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The lineup consists of singer/rhythm guitarist Anthony Buono, bassist Mike DeLaFleur, lead guitarist/sound geek Ted Seely and drummer Doug Briggs. They don’t look or dress up like the Beatles, their efforts are focused on the music. (Plus, in their own words, “we’d look silly dressed up like the Beatles”.)

The 8 Tracks lineup consists of singer/rhythm guitarist Anthony Buono, bassist Mike DeLaFleur, lead guitarist/sound geek Ted Seely and drummer Doug Briggs. Many of you know these guys as Glass Onion, but instead of the songs of the Fab Four, they’ll be playing songs mostly from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. After years of Glass Onion gigs where people asked if they played other material, they relented and put together another “band” in 2007. In a short time they have developed at 240+ song play list that runs the gamut from 60s pop and psychedelia to 70s rock, funk and disco, to 80s and later alternative, rock and pop. Like the other band, they are about faithfulness to the original material while letting their individual styles and sound shine through. They prove to be a rock powerhouse or the funkiest dance band around, and delight the audience every time!
